Q. What is VoIP?
A. VoIP stands for Voice over IP. Telephone calls are sent via the internet
Q. What if my Internet is down?
A. It will not be possible to make VoIP calls, however some handsets automatically fall back to BT
Q. What if I need support outside of office hours?
A. To contact a support engineer out of hours please complete the contact form
Q. What equipment do I need to use a vostel system?
A. Vostel is very flexible. You can use an IP telephone, PC, Mac or iPhone
Q. My phone will not work?
A. Check you have an internet connection. Use your web browser and see if you can access different websites. Or try typing this address into the top address bar of the browser. http://74.125.45.100. You should have a blue light on the base station which will tell you if your box is connected to the network. If the light is off, check your patch cables and your switch or router.
Q. My phone call keeps breaking up.
A. Check to see if anyone is downloading anything from the internet or if your PC is downloading windows updates or virus updates. Are all your PCs up to date with antivirus? It is possible one of the PCs could be under attack. Try unplugging PCs 1 by 1 to see if the calls improve.
Q. Phone is flashing “Base”
A. This usually means that the base station is not switched on so the phone cannot connect to it. Please check your base station.
Q. Phone says SIP registration failed.
A. Usually this means that you're not connected to the internet. Please see 'My phone will not work' for details.
Q. Can I dial the 1471 BT service?
A. 1471 only works with BT lines. If you have your telephone connected to your BT line, please get in touch and we can enable 1471 for you.
Q. Phone says “Your call can not be completed as dialled” when dialling a number.
A. Please remember to use the area code. VoIP phones work along the same line as a mobile phone and require the area code.
Q. Phone says “Please try your call again later” but I can call this number from a standard landline or a mobile.
A. This usually means that the person you are trying to call has a VoIP phone themselves. This stops you having to pay for a call to them when you can use their extension number for a free call. Please contact support for further help.
