What is Porting?

In essence it is a way for you to change service providers but retain your existing number, much the same as transferring a number when changing a mobile phone provider. VosTel just happen to have put some thought into it and realised some very useful cost-saving applications to number porting.

It is also worth noting that neither you nor any service provider ‘owns’ a telephone number, any UK originated telephone number falls under the jurisdiction of OfCom who are responsible for the regulation of the UK’s communication industries. This means that a service provider cannot with-hold your telephone number to keep you using their services

Cost Savings

A business may have 2,3 or even more ISDN lines coming into your building(s) all of which are carrying different numbers, this can prove expensive as line rental often makes up a large proportion of an annual telephony cost. A solution offered by those clever chaps at VosTel is to port numbers across to them, the additional ISDN lines can then be reduced (often to just one line) and therefore make a significant saving in terms of line rental...not to mention the Cost Savings that can be realised on the call charges!
